Semantic types of compound sentences in Ukrainian language (on the material of the story “Pain and anger” by Yevhen Hutsalo)

Abstract

Recently, there has been a marked increase in the interest of researchers in the issue of syntactic unit – a sentence in the Ukrainian language. Syntax scholars believe that syntactic concepts should be viewed not only from a formal grammatical point of view, but also from a semantic point of
view. The problem of the article is to clarify the peculiarities of the expression of complex sentences in the Ukrainian language, since they (sentences) cover the syntactic level of the language and are inherent only to them; in the analysis of syntactic unit models. Examples of sentences are from Eugene Gutsal’s story «Pain and Wrath,» which depicts the people’s struggle with oppressors. The study of the components of complex syntax is extremely relevant, as it helps to understand the general structure of expressions and text. Syntax is a component of a language system that is inextricably linked to its other components and whose subject matter is the structure of the connected language, the syntactic structure of the language. The second syntactic unit is the sentences, which are classified by their composition, divided into simple and complex.

The semantic approach to the study of syntax shows quite clearly that the basic sphere of syntactic units is the sphere of meaning, which uses the entire
linguistic arsenal to express an opinion. Studies of the features of the basic syntactic unit-sentence are now the focus of attention of linguistic scientists.
However, the problem of organizing a semantic syntactic sentence is not yet fully resolved. The semantic-syntactic structure of a complex sentence reflects the relationship between two or more situations. The main features of a complex sentence are the equivalence of predicative parts, conjunctions, the position of predicative units, intonation of parity.

The semantic-syntactic relationships between the parts of a complex sentence and the means of communication in conjunctive (complex and compound) and non-conjunctive complex sentences underlie the semanticsyntactic structure of the sentence. Complex conjunctive sentences, depending on the nature of the relationship between the parts and the means of expression, have traditionally been divided into compound and complex.

Between the parts of complex sentences there are the following substantive relations and their shades: unitive (the list of simultaneous or compatible phenomena, the list of sequential phenomena, consequentialinferential relations), adjectives, gradational, opposing, comparative, separating (alternation of phenomena, incompatibilities). Each semantic type of compound sentences has its own significant relations between the constituent parts, which differ in character.
