Epistolary of Ulas Samchuk is an arena of historical and literary controversy. It promoted the spiritual maturation of the writer, his awareness of himself as a literary fighter for the highest ideals of national and human culture. Ulas Samchuk noted that such letters gave him moral support in the struggle against those who could not or did not want to understand his ideas and those problems that he tried to touch in his literary works. Meanwhile, those problems required literary elucidation.Thus, the analysis of the epistolary heritage of Ulas Samchuk and Ivan Kotliarevsky gives grounds to state that the masters of the artistic word in their letters truly reflect the main features of their era. Their letters deeply reflect their inner spiritual life. An analysis of the private correspondence of I. Kotliarevsky and U. Samchuk proves that the role of both writers was not limited to serving the artistic word. The writers’ epistolary has identified theiractive involvement in the understanding of social processes, in their desire to bring Ukrainian culture as a whole and literature into Europe.In the course of the study of the private correspondence of Ulas Samchuk and Ivan Kotliarevsky, a number of aspects were identified that need further analysis: it is necessary to study the letters of the artists from the point of view of determining the nature and functions of the latter in the literary process of the 19th – 20th centuries views of writers.
