Poetry of homeland as essential issue of development of senior students’ ethnic and cultural competences on the Ukrainian literature lessons

Abstract

The article deals with the developing of ethnic and cultural awareness of senior students in the study and analysis of civil poetry in the lessons of Ukrainian literature. Bases formation of ethnocultural awareness of senior school students is an important part of a young person’s upbringing, the purpose of formation and developing young people’s outlook, their willingness to become real citizens of Ukraine in the nearest future. «Krasne pysmenstvo» (literature) is considered as a special and in fact leading art form («Literature and Art» is well-known and the most common phrase). In the lessons of Ukrainian literature by means of curriculum and a set of literary texts that it comprises for textual study and analysis, the possibilities for getting useful knowledge and skills of senior school students competencies related to national identity, the awareness of a young person as an important part of the Ukrainian nation is created. The problem of cultural upbringing of young generation has always considered to be one of the most important issues. We mean young people who are able to national self-identification as a result of development of ethnic and cultural competence. The poetry as a component of developing of ethnic and cultural competence on the literature lessons is analyzed, the useful methods of work with countrymen’s texts on development of ethnic and cultural awareness are shown in the article. Ukrainian literature and civil poetry particularly is one of the powerful means of developing of ethnic and cultural competence. The result of formation of ethnic and cultural awareness is national self-identification; eradication of historical unconsciousness; removal from the behavior and public consciousness of Ukrainians the feeling of national inferiority; raising of national self-esteem, increasing feeling of young generation as the hosts on the land of their ancestors; increasing respect for the national system of values and state priorities; steady preservation of national culture and Ukrainian art; formation of a powerful and holistic linguistic and cultural space throughout Ukraine; integration of Ukrainian culture into general civilization culture. The formation of ethnic and cultural competence of senior pupils in their early age has far-reaching realization in the field of the most important issues for Ukraine, when current students become adults and contribute to the development of the Ukrainian state.
