Educational plan and program as a component of educational-methodical support of the organization of control of educational activities of future teachers on the limits of the ХХ – XXI centuries

Abstract

Modern reforms in the system of higher pedagogical education require improving control procedures to check students’ learning outcomes, and consequently, elaborating educational and methodological support for their organization. The aim of the article is to define and analyze the role of curricular and educational programs as constituents of the educational and methodological support for organizing control of future foreign language teachers’ educational activities at the turn of ХХІ century.

The research allows us to claim that curricular and educational programs were essential constituents of the educational and methodological support worked out by higher educational establishments. The curriculum was the main document, while training curriculum, educational program and training educational program were based on it. It defined the list of the compulsory and elective disciplines, time and sequence of their studying, particular forms of training sessions (lectures, laboratory or practical classes, seminars, individual work, tutorials, educational and traineeship practices) and the amount of hours for their studying, academic calendar, forms and methods to conduct formative and summative assessment. The curriculum also defined the amount of hours for students’ self-work.

Educational program defined the place and significance of an academic discipline in students’ educational and professional training, its content, scope of knowledge and skills that a specialist has to master, sequence and organizational modes of the academic discipline studying, as well as types and methods of educational activity control. It was found out that the compulsory components of the educational program were introduction, topic list, detailed presentation of the academic discipline content, references. Forms and methods of learning outcomes assessment were obligatory stated in the contents of the educational program. The leading educators, methodologists of the period under research were deeply concerned about the importance of conducting proper control activities to evaluate future foreign language teachers’ learning achievements, so they paid special attention to the development of the content and the aim of control.

During the period under study Ukrainian higher educational establishments were moving from the lecture-based informative to the individual-differentiating, learner-centered mode of study, students’ self-work was becoming more and more important, therefore, conditions appeared to enforce the control of future teachers’ educational activity, which was reflected in the content of educational and methodological support.
